Downtown and Times Square: best for walking everywhere

Choose downtown if you want the beach, restaurants, bars, live music and the trolley within a few minutes on foot. Times Square sits at the north end of Estero Island, and this is the one part of the island where you can truly park once and walk. The trade-off: it’s the busiest area, especially in winter and on event weekends, and the pier area is under construction until about 2027.

The Loft FMB is downtown at 923 Third Street, 2 to 3 minutes from the sand, with free on-site parking and free bikes.

Mid-island: quieter, more driving

The middle of the island is mostly residential, with condos and homes along the beach and the bay. It suits travelers who want a quieter base and don’t mind driving to dinner. Check the actual walk to the nearest beach access: an address on Fort Myers Beach doesn’t guarantee a short walk to the sand.

The south end: nature and Lovers Key

The south end is the quietest part of the island and the closest to Lovers Key State Park and the Big Carlos Pass bridge toward Bonita Springs. It’s a good fit for nature-focused trips and longer, slower stays. Plan on driving or taking the trolley if you want to spend time downtown.
